TIPS ON GAMBLING REASONABLY

What is “Gambling”? As per the Webster’s online dictionary “Gambling is defined as any matter or thing involving risk or hazardous uncertainty or to stake or risk money, or anything of value, on the outcome of something involving chance: to gamble on a toss of the dice.” Notice that the dictionary does not define the word “Gambling” as bad.

Gambling can be of various kinds and can be done in various proportions.  These days we have various options of gambling ranging from the casinos to gambling related games which are freely available in the computers.

Now with the free availability of options in gambling it is completely up to us as to whether or not we will be able to draw the line at the right time and place, enabling gambling to be just a sport which is resorted to only for the sake of entertainment. If we can be responsible enough to be using only the amounts we find comfortable to use for gambling, without having to jeopardize our financial stability, then gambling is not a harmful sport in fact it can be much more entertaining than many other recreational activities.

Many people, ranging from young adults to senior people, gamble in various ways. Some people are found gambling at horse racing while the others bet on the outcomes of certain game. Many more follow the traditional ways of gambling and resort to the casinos and the slot machines. Whatever the form of gambling may be; if gambling is done with a sound mind and fully knowing one’s financial boundaries, there is no problem; however if a person losses his/her sense of reasoning and spends irrationally on gambling then is when the problems begin to arise.

If an individual knows how and where to set the limits of spending and does not end up coming home frustrated with one loss after another, after hours of time and money being spend on gambling of any kind, then there is nothing to fear because the person is being reasonable and is spending his “recreational fund” from his salary. The thing that we need to ask ourselves and our loved ones is that have we/they defined a “recreational fund” out of which we spend the money on gambling? If yes then that is very good.

However if there is no limit that has been set and there is no “recreational fund” created and in spite of that loads of money is being spent on gambling then there is definitely a big problem.

In order to be reasonable while gambling all we need to do is:

1)   Have a fixed budget that you allot to gambling every month and then irrespective of winning or losing we should not exceed that pre-set limit.

2)   Even if we get windfall gains through our bonuses or cash in the form of gifts on various occasions, we should never overspend in the casinos.

3)   Always remember that there are many alternatives to gambling and since you have loads of recreational activities to chose from, frequently you should chose other options also , so that gambling does not become an addiction an remains an option all your life.
